Leslie

Hello. My name is Leslie Knight and I have a brain that is full of ideas that will help you make small changes to save the planet, your pocketbook and your health. I am an avid gardener and am passionate about helping people grow their own food, live more sustainably and with better health. You could say that this is my Ikagai, or reason to live. It’s definitely my passion project!

Lindsay

My partner in crime is my sister Lindsay, who is a beginner gardener who is learning to grow vegetables in her urban back yard. We both have a background in Physical and Health Education and have worked in education and wellness to help people adopt healthy, active lifestyles.

Our Mom Was Ahead of Her Time

In the sixties, Mom became an ardent practitioner of yoga well before it was fashionable to do so. Basically, Mom lived a Blue Zone lifestyle. Okinawa Japan is one of these five zones that has been extensively studied and written about. The residents suffered only a fraction of the diseases that kill Americans (cardiovascular disease, breast and prostate cancer and dementia) until the end of WW2 brought growing prosperity and Western diet influences. Our mom lived well into her 80’s, medication free, and mostly healthy and vigorous until the end.

Mom being a fashionista

Mom’s values on life and how to live sustainably rubbed off on us. She was a master of recycling food into various iterations of leftovers, re-used plastics like milk bags to wrap lunches (much to a pre-teen’s embarrassment) and instilled a deep love and respect for nature in all of us. Thanks Mom for inspiring us to reduce the impact on the planet!

Our goal with this blog is to help inspire you to make small changes in your habits to eat well, waste less, and live more sustainably without breaking the bank! Small actions can make a difference.
